Great, great this piece, Josh. Thank you for pposting it. It needs to be screamed to this country, whether they want to listen or not. We cannot look away. Must not look away.

Thanks Abby. Finished A Three Dog Life and had some deep much needed cries. The only way is through.

"I want to be taken out of my comfort zone when I enter the artspace. What we have now is authoritarian censorship in the arts. In fact, art may simply be dead."

Powerful words. And I agree.

And nowhere, in my view, is this more obvious than in what is sadly now called "the film industry" -- which is generally now regarded by filmmakers as an arm of the "entertainment industry".

When we call it an industry, and especially an entertainment industry, we do great damage to our ability to understand filmmaking as an art form, and art as something which carries accountability to present and future lives of beings of all species.

I think about this in relation to film because I'm attempting to start a small, non-profit film company, and see film as at least potentially among the most potent forms of art as medicine in a culture which needs medicine now, not entertainment.

Sign me up for your company! Sounds like a great project. I work in tv as my “day job” so I’m quite familiar with the “industry”. I’m still writing screenplays and hope to get something made soon.

You're officially now signed up. I'll be in touch soon to discuss how we can find mutual nourishment in a company all about deep reciprocity.
